SubCulture Volumes 1-3 Now Available For Pre-Order!

by Kevin Freeman on May 14, 2011 at 12:00 am

Not a myth!   Not a hoax!  Not an imaginary story!  It’s been long overdue, but we are printing new books!

Our self-published SubCulture: The Webstrips Volume 1.0 is a hard sellout, which means that it is time to reprint!  While we are happy that the book sold out, there were a few things we were a little disappointed in–in particular the size of the strips themselves.  We wanted to keep the 6×9 size to match our original TPB, and as such, we put three strips to a page.  The result was a strip that was fairly hard to read, and almost impossible to see a lot of Stan’s intricate linework and hidden Easter eggs that we like to put here and there in our strips.

Another disappointment was that we were unable to list our book in Previews, the catalog for Diamond Comic Distribution, which meant that it wouldn’t be sold in comic shops, and we also really wouldn’t have the ability to have the book sold at other book retailers, like Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million.

Both of these problems have been solved.  First, for these new printings, we decided to turn the book landscape, so the spine would be on the 6-inch side rather than the 9-inch side.  We published one strip per page, which makes it full size, meaning that you can see everything that was intended to be seen.  Stan and I have also written small captions and explanations for each strip, giving you a little inside information and background about each strip.

We solved the second problem by publishing our collections through Ape Entertainment, the small-press publisher that I have been a part of for the last six years.  Through Ape, we are able to get coverage in bookstores and comic stores, which hopefully will increase exposure and (hopefully) result in a few more sales.

Of course, if you have the option, we’d like you to order the book from your friendly local comic book store (FLCBS).  But, in the event that you won’t or can’t, you are more than welcome to order directly through us.  As such, Volumes 1-3 are all available now for PREORDER on our Store page.  Each volume is 96 pages and sells for $10.00.  And as usual, domestic shipping is FREE.   For international orders, I will take $5.00 off of the actual shipping price to save you a few shillings as well, but please send me an e-mail first so I can calculate exact shipping. I also will sign each and every pre-ordered book that I get, and if you don’t mind waiting a few extra days, I probably can get Stan to sign them as well.

And we save the best for last–for the first 50 people who pre-order all 3 volumes (for US $30.00), we will, when it is available, ship Volume 4 to you absolutely FREE.  And signed, just like the rest of them.

We fully expect to have all three books in hand by the middle of June, so you won’t have to wait long.

Stan and I really like writing and drawing SubCulture, and we hope you enjoy reading it just as much.  We also understand that there are a lot of options for your entertainment dollar, and that you can read this strip for free (which we are glad that you do!)  We hope, however, that you like the strip well enough to perhaps buy a collection or two.  The revenue allows us to pay for our bandwidth and go to shows where we can hawk our wares in person.  We do this for the love.  Anything extra is gravy.

Hear my smooth FM voice on the latest episode of the Comic Geek Speak podcast.  I join the CGS crew in talking about things in this month’s Previews, plus I get to plug the webstrip, and the new books that I have in that magazine, just a little bit.  I hope I didn’t sound TOO much like a dork!
