Part one of this storyline introduces a new character to the mix–Blake. A couple of readers of the strip have mentioned that we really have never introduced a new male character into the cast other than Larry. So here’s Blake in all his glory.
We also have some news that most of you will perceive as bad:
Stan and I have decided to end SubCulture with Strip 501, which will post October 11. As such, this current storyline will be our last. We are not saying that there will never be another SubCulture story popping up at some point in the future. However, we both believe that all good things should come to an end, and both Stan and I have other projects in the fire (some of them on my end will become apparent very soon–stay tuned) that we want to spend some time on–we want to move on to do other things. Similarly, sales on our books were never spectacular to begin with, and it was getting to the point that it just wasn’t economically feasible to maintain things at the status quo. We never got that next big “push” as far as hits per day were concerned, although there are plenty of strips out there who are jealous of even our numbers. So putting these things all together, we decided it was time to wrap things up, at least for now.
We hope this last storyline goes out with a bang.
A few caveats:
1. We have every intention to publish Volume 4 of the webstrips in trade paperback form. It will be about double the size of the previous three books and will complete the 501-part story. We also may publish all of the strips between one set of covers–an omnibus, so to speak. We plan on keeping all of the trades in print for the foreseeable future as well, and we undoubtedly will have this stuff available on the site here and at conventions.
2. The website will be maintained. There are no plans to drop the site. So all of the archived strips can still be viewed at any time. Stan and I also may continue to update the blog section of the site to keep everyone up to speed on the latest events.
3. We have very much enjoyed doing this strip for as long as we have. We’ve been working on SubCulture since late 2006, and it started as a webstrip in February 2008–four and a half years and 500 strips is an eternity for webcomics, and we’re happy that you have been reading it and supportive of it for so long to keep it alive oh these many years.
So enjoy the rest of the ride! We know we will!

Best of luck, guys! It’s been a great run.
Thanks, Amber. You’ve been among our most constant and outspoken fans.
What Stan said. Thanks, Amber!
You guys do no wrong by me. It’ll be sad to see the strip go, but I totally understand wanting to keep things fresh and not get in a rut.
I will enjoy these last 11 strips with gusto!
Huzzah! Look forward to hearing from you on these… especially the last two!
Thanks, Josh! We appreciate the support you’ve given us over the years.
Subculture has been a classic in my eyes and will remain so even without any new updates. Can’t wait to see what Kevin and Stan are up to next.
Me too. All kidding aside, there are a lot of things that appear to be on the horizon. I’ll keep you all posted here on them. Maybe, I’ll even get my own login so I don’t have to do it as Kevin (LOL). REVVVelations, which you’ll see linked in the lower right is still in the works. I also hope to have some new comic book projects in the works, and eBooks of old projects too!
Thanks! Hopefully news about my latest endeavors will be released sooner than later. Just putting the final touches on contracts.
Sorry to see you and the strip go but good luck on future endeavors. I’m looking forward to reading the story to come and keep us updated on what the future holds.
PS I already like Blake.
Too bad to see you go like this. I get all your reasons and so wish you both a lot of successful projects in the future.
But I was still hoping for Noel and Jason to get their act together again and get out of friend zone… Ah, wishful thinking.
Sorry to see this comic end, it’s been a favorite of mine.
I look forward to whatever you do next, I’m sure it will be amazing too!
Stan and Kevin,
I love Subculture. You guys have done a great job, and I hate to see it go after all these years. Thanks for doing such a great job, Subculture will be missed, and good look with everything.
Now it’s time to play the waiting game (for vol. 4 and the omnibus that will surely follow)
Thanks, Matt! We appreciate your support over the years!
