I can see this in a couple of different ways: Either Noel’s dad is being a complete tool by tantalizing the Skycap with a huge bill, then asking for change… or he doesn’t have tipping-sized bills and is caught in an awkward situation — admit it, you’ve been there — where you’ve opted NOT to tip because you’re too embarrassed to ask to break a large bill.

I don’t think he is intentionally tantalizing the Skycap and I think he is honestly just too clueless to find the situation awkward when asking for change.
I have to admit I know when I am going to be going somewhere that involves a cash tip and plan in advance (usually this is when I have to valet park at a couple cons in the area).
But in terms of being a jerk, my dad is the kind of person that always carries a dozen hundred dollar bills and to get to a small bill he has to very clearly sort through his large bills first. He is a show off like that. >_<
